Review: Groomed for Murder (Going to the Dogs #2) – Zoe Dawson

This is the second in series of books by Zoe Dawson and I was eager to read it. I enjoyed the first book ‘Leashed’ so much I couldn’t wait to start on this book. Zoe did not disappoint in the second book either. The second book concentrates on Brooke, owner of the dog salon Pawlish, and Drew a cut throat lawyer who is trying to get Brooke to settle out of court in order to gain a partnership in a prestige law firm. The author is able to weave characters that are balanced with both flaws, quirks and goodness. No one is as bad or as good as one first seems, but all of the characters are a wonderful mixture of strengths and weaknesses. I think that it is the flaws of people’s characters that really make them interesting, and the author is really able to make the characters jump from the page and feel real.
The one criticism I do have of the book is that it should have ended long before it did. The whole murder plot felt forced and un-needed. Instead of adding to the story, it really took away from it and made the ending feel less realistic and more forced. The author does great at romance and murder intrigue felt really out of place in the whole book. Despite that issue, I still very much enjoyed and loved the book and I cannot wait to read the next one in the series.
